Exhibition: Victor Horta - A Lost World
From 08.04.2011 to 31.12.2011
Maison Autrique, Brussels
www.autrique.be
Organised by La Maison Autrique

It is difficult to believe that a piece of architecture that was acclaimed in its period, barely more than a century ago, and built with a masterly savoir faire out of the finest quality materials, should be revealed to be so fragile. Its history could become the plot of a modern fable.
This exhibition, which the Maison Autrique is dedicating to Victor Horta, proposes following or retracing the key moments of a piece of architecture which has long since disappeared. This initiative is another push in the movement to recover Art Nouveau history, a movement that has been of the highest importance in the Brussels region for several years.
"Victor Horta - A Lost World", open to the public until 31 December 2011, fulfils expectations: the pieces, works and films presented are simply extraordinary. The exhibition is structured around three themes: projects which were never undertaken (such as the Congo Pavilion), those that destiny has done away with (l´Innovation department store, for example) and those which humans have destroyed (the Maison du Peuple is the most iconic example).
These vanished projects come alive again at the Maison Autrique in different ways: Horta´s plans and sketches, impressive remains (which you can even touch), reconstructions and some period film pieces. The whole forms a highly coherent, varied exhibition.

Meeting: Multilateral Exchange 2: "New Technologies and Social Networks in the Diffusion of Heritage: Challenges and Opportunities"
06.06.2011
Music Academy of Barcelona
www.artnouveau-net.eu
Organised by Réseau Art Nouveau Network

The international network of Art Nouveau-heritage cities, Réseau Art Nouveau Network, will be holding the second Multilateral Exchange on 6 June, in collaboration with the Urban Landscape Institute, on the use of new technologies for disseminating that heritage.
During the multilateral exchange to be held at the Conservatori de Música on 6 June, the following topic will be debated: "New technologies and social media networks in the dissemination of heritage: challenges and opportunities". Offering the potential to expand the Art Nouveau heritage, these tools also pose a great challenge for the cultural sector. Barcelona, Brussels, Budapest, Glasgow and Aveiro will be sharing their experiences with other cities on designing web pages, creating virtual archives, digitizing pictures of historical monuments and their presence on social media networks.
The Réseau Art Nouveau Network is currently made up of sixteen cities and six institutions that promote academic and educational activities, to disseminate and study Art Nouveau through the support of the European Commission's 2007-2013 Culture Programme.
The network is noted as much for its enterprise and commitment as for putting the case for a rigourous and vigilant scientific approach for keeping professionals informed and shaping public opinion on the cultural importance of this heritage we have so near at hand. Which is why this Multilateral Exchange will be open to the public. Free participation with compulsory registration before 27 May.
